Legal Expertise

Kathleen Morrison has always known exactly who she is. Growing up during the AIDS crisis, watching people be treated with cruelty for something they couldn't help, she didn't look away. She put on her armor and started fighting at 13, in Catholic school, taking on teachers, principals, and anyone who confused authority with doing the right thing. Her parents would tell her: you don't have to make everything your fight. Her answer was always the same: don't I?

She went to law school because the law, at its best, is a beautiful thing — a shared agreement that every person deserves to be heard, protected, and treated with fairness regardless of who they are.

Kathleen became a public defender first, working with hundreds of clients at a time — people navigating poverty, addiction, mental illness, and cycles of violence — and learning that the legal system could either crush people or hold them. She chose holding them. Clients requested her by name. One day at Lancaster County Prison, a client spotted her through the glass and called out to the group around him, loud and proud: that's my lawyer.

From public defense she moved to nonprofit legal aid, representing survivors of domestic violence, and then to Lancaster County government as First Assistant County Solicitor — where she represented the Office of Aging in Orphans' Court proceedings and advised on estate planning as an alternative to guardianship. In 2023, she founded Morrison Law PLLC so she could show up as fully herself on the job. To show up warm, direct, and human. To treat every client as a partner. To keep doing the work she has always done, on her own terms.

Kathleen is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Lancaster Bar Association.

Life Beyond the Law

Kathleen serves on the Board of Directors of Lancaster Farm Sanctuary, a 501(c)3 rescue and sanctuary organization for farmed animals in Lancaster County, and one of the most genuinely welcoming communities she has ever been part of.

She is a volunteer at LGBTQ+ legal clinics run through the Lancaster Bar Association, helping community members navigate name changes and identity documentation. She also supports college-level mock trials by sponsoring a local team and serving as a competition judge.

Kathleen doesn't just say she's an ally, she shows up.

And her practice reflects that same openness: Morrison Law is a place where everyone is welcome as they are, no judgment, no assumptions, no hierarchy. Straight, queer, young, elderly. What her clients share is not an identity, but the desire (and right!) to be treated with dignity, honesty, and respect.

Kathleen believes, deeply, that the true measure of a civilization is how it treats its most vulnerable members. The elderly. The disabled. The people who have been told, in a hundred different ways, that they don't fit. That belief is not a marketing position. It is the reason she became a lawyer.

Kathleen didn't become a lawyer to get rich. She became one to serve.

She spent over a decade in public service as a public defender, a legal aid attorney, and a county solicitor before starting her own practice. She could have gone to a big firm at any point. She didn't, because that was never the point. The point has always been the same: to use the talents she was given to help people who need them.
